Nuance Recognizes Premier eScription Customers that Received Million Dollar Savings and Productivity Awards

Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading supplier of speech solutions, today announced the 17 recipients of the 2008 eScription Million Dollar Savings and Productivity Awards that were presented at eScription’s recent annual user meeting in Boston. Each year, eScription recognizes healthcare provider organizations that achieve 125 percent or greater productivity gains, as well as those organizations that demonstrate savings of at least one million dollars or that reach a new level of million dollar savings using its on-demand computer aided medical transcription (CAMT) solution. To date, the eScription Million Dollar Savings Club includes 23 organizations. These organizations working together with eScription, have documented more than $49 million in savings for the healthcare industry. "The recipients of this year’s awards should be proud of their hard work toward improving clinical documentation at their organizations. Not only have they increased productivity and decreased costs, they have also reduced medical report turnaround time,” said Ben Chigier, former co-CEO of eScription and co-general manager of Nuance’s healthcare eScription business unit. "We enjoy congratulating our Million Dollar Savings Club members each year, and watching the group grow as more customers achieve savings and efficiency milestones as a result of using our software,” he added. With the eScription solution, healthcare provider organizations achieve significant cost savings by making their medical transcriptionists (MTs) more productive allowing these organizations to reduce or eliminate outsourcing, take on additional transcription work without adding resources, or re-deploy internal medical transcriptionists. This year, a total of 17 eScription customers were acknowledged for reaching a new level of million dollar savings, between one million and nine million dollars. The organizations include: First One Million Dollars Saved: Ardent Health Services (Nashville, TN), Aurora Health Care-Metro Region (Milwaukee, WI), New England Baptist Hospital (Boston, MA), Caritas Norwood Hospital (Norwood, MA), Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (Whittier, CA), Tampa General Hospital (Tampa, FL), Washington County Hospital (Hagerstown, MD), John Muir Health (Walnut Creek, CA), and Medical Associates Health Centers (Menomonee Falls, WI). Two Million Dollars Saved: Charleston Area Medical Center (Charleston, WV), Maine Medical Center (Portland, ME), Mount Carmel Health System (Columbus, OH) and Carle Clinic (Urbana, IL) Three Million Dollars Saved: PeaceHealth Oregon Region (Eugene, OR) and Piedmont Healthcare (Atlanta, GA) Five Million Dollars Saved: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA) Nine Million Dollars Saved: Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA), a customer since 2001, has achieved the highest savings yet of nine million dollars using eScription’s on-demand CAMT solution. "The use of computer aided medical transcription technology has exceeded my expectations,” said Shereen Martin, director of medical records at Washington County Hospital, a one million dollar award recipient. "Savings were achieved from increased productivity as well as the elimination of transcription outsourcing and overtime. It is so nice to have a positive experience that the department and hospital can be proud of.” Additionally, eScription presented its Productivity Award to organizations using in-house MTs that have reached and sustained productivity gains of more than 125 percent. Ascension Health received the 2008 Productivity Award, joining six other eScription customers that have surpassed the 125 percent+ productivity success metric in previous years. Ascension’s in-house transcription teams at Providence Hospital, St. John Health, and St. John Macomb Hospital were recognized for their 135 percent productivity gains. This increase measures how much faster their MTs are able to edit draft documents produced though the eScription solution, as compared with traditional transcription, in which they are tasked with typing a document from scratch. Kathy Taylor, project manager from St. John Health, a division of Ascension, accepted the Productivity Award at the eScription user meeting. She emphasized the importance of her MTs diligently using keystroke shortcuts that boost productivity. She also stated, "The eScription platform comes as a complete package. Training, product features for editing, and the excellent quality of draft documents fit together like a puzzle. The combination creates the best solution that has, in turn, enabled us to achieve tremendous results.” "The eScription Million Dollar Savings Club is an elite group of healthcare organizations that exemplifies the significant value that technology has in the clinical documentation process. Nuance congratulates the award winners and welcomes all eScription customers to the now united Nuance and eScription team,” commented Robert Wise, president of Nuance’s Healthcare division. "We are looking forward to not only continuing, but growing this award program as tangible value for our customers will remain a key focus of the combined organization.” For more information on the eScription on-demand computer aided medical transcription solution, please call 781-455-8900 or visit: www.eScription.com. eScription was recently acquired by Nuance, for more information on the details of the transaction visit: http://www.nuance.com/news/pressreleases/2008/20080520_escription.asp.
