RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 2005--NEC Solutions (America) Inc., a premier provider of integrated solutions for the Connected Enterprise in North America, announced that effective April 1, 2005 technology industry veteran Larry Sheffield will be promoted to executive vice president of the company's Solutions Platform Group, a post in which his role will expand to include developing strategy and driving sales for NEC Solutions America's high performance computing (HPC) and media solutions.
Sheffield has led NEC Solutions America's Solutions Platform Group (SPG) since June 2003, during which he has expanded NEC's family of fault tolerant (FT), and Itanium servers as well as storage hardware line. With information security a key concern of customers, he also manages the Software Business and Removable Storage divisions to ensure seamless integration. His tenure has witnessed numerous industry accolades for NEC's family of high-availability and disaster recovery FT systems, including "Best of Show" at CeBIT America 2004.
"I am honored and excited at this extraordinary demonstration of confidence in my abilities, and I look forward to continuing to help drive NEC Solutions America's growth as the integrated solutions provider of choice," said Sheffield. "With our legacy of technical innovation and consulting expertise, as well as a robust set of offerings that range from servers to software, NEC Solutions America is poised for significant future growth, and I relish the opportunity to contribute."
"NEC Solutions America's server and software business has thrived under Mr. Sheffield's stewardship. As we further expand our server-related offerings and technology practices, he is the natural choice to lead that expansion," said Toshi Iwanami, president and CEO, NEC Solutions America. "We welcome his service at NEC, and we anticipate even greater successes in the future."
Sheffield is an accomplished senior executive with an extensive background in the areas of servers, professional services, software, OEM business, and international sales and marketing. Most recently, he was recognized by VARBusiness' in their "Top Executive List" for his outreach efforts to the value-added reseller channel, and DM Review's "2004 DM Review 100."
Prior to joining NEC Solutions America, Sheffield served as senior vice president of the Americas for Silicon Graphics, Inc. where he was responsible for the worldwide sales channel and operations, and served as the worldwide field interface to marketing and manufacturing. Prior to SGI, Sheffield worked for nearly 30 years for IBM Corporation where he developed and implemented e-business solutions for the IBM Storage Division with a specific focus on B2B for OEM and internal customers, and launched the first IBM call center. During his tenure at IBM, Sheffield received a number of high-level accolades including GM of the Year for his performance in 1994, leading all IBM GMs in revenue and profit growth for two consecutive years in 1994 and 1995.
