The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, campus tours and machining demonstrations, and included the renaming of Lincoln's CNC Machining facility as the Hurco CNC Technology Center.  Hurco Companies, Inc., a leading manufacturer of CNC equipment headquartered in Indianapolis, is providing the latest models of its machines for Lincoln's program.

"We are excited to unveil the Hurco CNC Technology Center, and for our students to have the opportunity to train on Hurco machines," says Lincoln's President and COO Scott Shaw.  "Our CNC Machining program will prepare students to join a growing and desirable industry as entry-level CNC operators or set-up technicians in today's modern manufacturing facilities.  Opportunities for trained CNC Machinists throughout Indiana are projected to increase 19% between 2010-2020*, making it one of the fastest-growing career fields in the state."

Among the guests in attendance was Brian Burton of the Indiana Manufacturers' Association.  "It was an honor to have Mr. Burton and several other dignitaries with us today," says Todd Clark, Executive Director of Lincoln'sIndianapolis campus.  "We appreciate the support from the state of Indiana, the city of Indianapolis, the local Chamber of Commerce and its President and CEO Michael Huber, and our partners at Hurco.  This will mean great things for the manufacturing industry and for our students—as many of them will have the opportunity to be considered for jobs with Hurco and its partners upon graduation."

Hurco's President Greg Volovic believes Lincoln can be a leading voice in changing the way manufacturing is viewed around the country.  "Lincoln has the national reach to be an influential voice to educate the public about 21st century manufacturing in America, what it looks like, and why it is important," Volovic says. "Lincoln's commitment to applied education and their grasp on the role of technology in manufacturing helps create a quality program where students can attain the education they need in order to launch new careers in the manufacturing sector."

In addition to the day's ribbon-cutting ceremony, machining demonstrations and campus tours, attendees were also treated to a special guest appearance and autograph signing by Vinnie DiMartino, celebrated mechanic and machinist of Discovery Channel's "American Chopper" Series, and owner of DiMartino Motorsports.

Lincoln's first CNC Machining and Manufacturing Technology classes will start on November 21.  The diploma program will prepare graduates to sit for Level 1 Certifications, which demonstrate mastery of machining materials, job planning and safety, MasterCAM software, and manufacturing processes such as CNC milling and turning.

Lincoln continues to seek out and establish new partnerships and programs around the country to bridge the skills gap between the abilities of the workforce and the needs of employers.  The Indianapolis campus is a 185,000+ square foot facility that has been redesigned to include a 5,000-square foot CNC Machining and Manufacturing training area.  The campus will offer certificate and diploma programs in CNC Machining and Manufacturing Technology, in addition to its current programs in Automotive, Diesel and Truck Technology, Collision Repair and Refinishing, and Electronics Systems Technology.
