LaundryCares Foundation's Free Laundry Day Event in Phoenix, AZ Plus Unveiling of New Laundromat Learning Space

PHOENIX, Nov. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the LaundryCares Foundation will host a Free Laundry Day event at Local Laundry laundromat in Phoenix, AZ from 3 – 6 PM. The location of this event is 3424 W Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85053.

Free Laundry Day events provide free laundry services and cleaning products plus free food and fun activities for children and adults to enjoy. Laundry owners, distributors, manufacturer employees, and local community members will participate as volunteers helping to operate this event.

As part of the event, a new Family Read, Play & Learn space will be installed within this laundromat. These literacy play spaces provide a comfortable seating area, high-quality books, toys, and other materials designed to help parents engage in literacy-rich interactions with their children during laundry time. Similar learning spaces have been launched in laundromats across the nation through the Laundry Literacy Coalition – a partnership between Too Small to Fail and the LaundryCares Foundation.

Millions of families in underserved communities visit laundromats each week to fulfill the basic need of having clean clothes. For many of these families, fulfilling this basic need can often be a challenge. With that in mind, Local Laundry, the LaundryCares Foundation, and Too Small to Fail are excited and honored to offer a day of free laundry services for people in the neighborhood. Guests can bring an unlimited amount of laundry to the event and will receive free laundry products to help clean their clothes.

While the guests do their laundry, Too Small to Fail, the National Center for Families Learning, along with Read On Arizona, Arizona Department of Education, Southwest Human Development, Unite For Literacy, Make Way For Books, Read On Phoenix, First Things First, Phoenix Public Library, Stand for Children, and Valley of the Sun United Way will lead playful literacy activities for the whole family to enjoy, including story time and singing. To help foster a love for reading, each child will also be able to go home with free books and other early literacy resources developed by Too Small to Fail. Additionally, these organizations will host a community fair providing families with information and access to local health, child care, and education related resources.

Furthermore, representatives of the NHL hockey team, the Arizona Coyotes, will be present to give away items, interact with the kids, and entertain the families.

"We're ecstatic that the owners at Local Laundry, Nada and Steve, are hosting this Free Laundry Day! We're especially looking forward to witnessing the reactions of their customers to their new Family Read, Play & Learn space." – Dan Naumann, Executive Vice President, LaundryCares Foundation

"Families spend an average of 2.5 hours during each visit to the laundromat. We have worked to help turn laundry time into meaningful opportunities to engage families in literacy-rich activities. We are thrilled to bring the Family, Read, Play & Learn space to children and their caregivers in the Phoenix area." – Jane Park Woo, Director of Too Small to Fail at the Clinton Foundation.
