Julia Child Would Be Thrilled: 98% of Americans Prefer to Cook at Home

NEW YORK, Nov. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a new survey by ReportLinker, cooking at home is still the preferred way to prepare a meal for 98% of Americans.

On Thanksgiving Day, millions of Americans will gasp in appreciation as the perfectly browned turkey is pulled from the oven. For most Americans, it is likely that this meal, like most of the meals they cook throughout the year, will be prepared at home as cooking at home is still the preferred way to prepare a meal for the vast majority of them.

Key findings of the survey show that:

●     36% of Americans say they cook at home daily

●     50% say they cook between three and six days a week

But cooking remains popular for two noteworthy reasons: it's inexpensive and healthier.

●     31% of Americans say the lower cost motivates them to cook at home

●     While 22% say their desire for healthy fare drives them into the kitchen

●     And only 13.7% of Americans said their love of cooking was the primary reason they spent time in the kitchen.

Although cooking is still very common among Americans – particularly retirees, passionate cooks, and older generations – one group, Millenials, is much more reluctant to turn on the stove:

●     24% of them admit cooking less than once a week

●     28% describes themselves as beginners in cooking

●     and 32% of Millennials find inspiration on cooking blogs or websites.

But one of the more interesting avenues they are exploring are meal-kit delivery services for which millennials could be a promising market as 15% have used one of these services in the last year, compared to just 10% of all Americans.
