JetBlue Makes Historic Flight To Cuba

(RTTNews) - After a long gap of fifty years, the first direct commercial flight from U.S. will land in Cuba on Wednesday. JetBlue Flight 387 will be creating a new history by reconnecting direct travel link between the two countries. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and JetBlue Chief Robin Hayes are there among the first group of travelers to Cuba.

After five decades of cold war since 1961, U.S. restored its diplomatic ties with Cuba in 2015. The Department of Transportation in U.S. has given permission for a maximum of 110 flights on a daily basis to Cuba. Though travel ban still exists for U.S. citizens, they can travel to Cuba for educational, religious, humanitarian and nine other reasons.

It is expected that flights will be operated from New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Houston to various routes in Cuba.

Earlier in May, a cruise ship from Miami with 700 passengers has visited Havana, Cienfuegos, and Santiago de Cuba.
