Jennifer Daley to Depart as Tenet's Chief Medical Officer
Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE:THC) announced today that Jennifer
Daley, M.D., its chief medical officer, will leave the company Sept. 28
to accept the position of chief medical officer at Partners Community
Healthcare in Boston.
Tenet said it will begin a search for a successor, and in the interim
Stephen L. Newman, M.D., chief operating officer, will oversee the
company’s clinical quality department. It
added that Dr. Daley will continue to serve Tenet as a senior advisor on
its clinical quality initiatives.
"I have enjoyed my more than five years at
Tenet, and I am extremely proud of the improvements we have made in
clinical quality at every Tenet hospital during that time,”
Dr. Daley said. "However, my home has always
been in Boston and my family has remained there during my time at Tenet.
I have young children who deserve far more of my time in the years
ahead, and I have decided that I now need to work closer to home.”
Trevor Fetter, Tenet’s president and chief
executive officer, said, "Jennifer Daley has
made an indelible contribution to Tenet as we have built our strategy on
an unrelenting commitment to quality in everything we do. Although I am
very sorry to see her leave, I respect her decision to place her family
first. Jennifer has assembled a first-rate team at Tenet that is focused
intensely on continuing the progress we have made to improve patient
care based on the latest and best evidence-based standards.”
Dr. Daley, 58, joined Tenet in July 2002 as vice president, clinical
effectiveness, and was promoted to her current position in April 2003.
Under her direction, Tenet implemented its innovative Commitment to
Quality, which is designed to enhance the overall quality, safety
and productivity of Tenet’s patient care
delivery processes. The Commitment to Quality has introduced a
series of initiatives to improve evidence-based medicine, patient
safety, nursing practice, medical staff governance, hospital capacity
and patient flow, and other important areas related to the quality of
care.
As measured by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Hospital Compare
web site, the aggregate score for all Tenet hospitals on key quality
metrics such as treatment for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia
have risen sharply over the past three years and now ranks well above
the national average for all U.S. hospitals.
Dr. Daley is returning to Partners Community Healthcare, where before
joining Tenet she had worked for three years as director of Partners’
Center for Health Systems Design and Evaluation in the Institute for
Health Policy. Partners Healthcare includes Massachusetts General
Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in
Boston.
Tenet Healthcare Corporation, through its subsidiaries, owns and
operates acute care hospitals and related health care services. Tenet’s
hospitals aim to provide the best possible care to every patient who
comes through their doors, with a clear focus on quality and service.
