Imation Honors Outstanding Product and Technical Achievements
Imation Corp. (NYSE:IMN) today announced the recipients of its annual "Genesis Award” for a new product that has made a significant contribution to the company and an impact industry-wide. Imation also recognized 16 employees and retirees who have been named as inventors on 14 new patents issued to Imation by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 2008. Both groups will be honored during the company’s Seventh Annual Imation Awards Banquet this evening.
Imation's "RDX Team” received the company’s Genesis Award for the successful introduction and market adoption of the Imation RDX Removable Storage System. This removable disk cartridge and docking station operates like a traditional tape cartridge system, while providing the benefits of a disk-to-disk system. With up to a half-terabyte capacity on a single cartridge, RDX provides small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with easy and reliable backup, data security and expandable storage. In 2009, working with technology partner ProStor Systems, Imation was selected by two major OEMs to provide RDX systems for their servers, and also launched an Imation-branded after-market product.
"We’re very pleased to see Imation recognizing its RDX team with the Genesis Award,” said Steve Georgis, general manager of RDX business unit , ProStor Systems. "RDX is rapidly replacing entry-level tape as the preferred back-up choice for SMBs. A company like Imation, with a strong technology focus based on more than 50 years in the industry and extensive global distribution reach, is an excellent partner to help us drive even broader adoption of RDX. With over 175,000 end users who are already enjoying the benefits of RDX, we look forward to continuing to work with Imation to deliver the next generations on our RDX technology roadmap.”
Imation also will recognize 16 inventors for data storage-related patents received in 2008.
"Imation has a long history of technical and product development leadership,” said Subodh Kulkarni, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Imation. "Our teams consistently generate technical advances and create new products that positively impact our business and the industry as a whole. Patents awarded in 2008 cover a wide range of innovations, from the structure of a magnetic tape to a wristband housing for a wearable flash drive to a removable hard disk drive and dock. Our technology leadership, combined with the hard work and expertise of our global product launch teams, helps Imation stay in the forefront of the industry. We are very pleased to honor this year’s Imation Genesis Award and patent recipients.”
