Identix Receives Order Valued in Excess of $400,000 for IBIS Real-Time, Mobile Biometric Identification Solution
Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq:IDNX) announced today that it hasreceived an order valued in excess of $400,000 from the MinnesotaBureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to expand the BCA's rollout ofIdentix' patented IBIS mobile biometric identification solution. Underthis new order, the BCA will deploy additional IBIS mobile handheldunits to select Minnesota law enforcement officers across the State toprovide them with the ability to capture and wirelessly transmitbiometric fingerprint data of individuals who need to be identified inthe field through the Identix IBIS server. Identix' IBIS serverincludes backend software systems located at the Minnesota BCA'sfacilities that handle sequenced transaction workflows and access thewealth of biometric data that exists in the Minnesota State AFISdatabase. Upon receiving a query containing biometric data from anofficer in the field, the IBIS server automatically routes the queryto the State AFIS database to search for any possible matches. Aresponse related to a hit or no hit against the AFIS database isrelayed back to the Officer's handheld IBIS unit generally in lessthan three minutes. If a match is found against the database, additional identifying information on the individual, possibly frommultiple sources, is included in the response. The BCA is also addinga number of desk top IBIS units under this order for location atselect agencies to provide similar biometric identification captureand search functionality at brick and mortar precincts.
With this rollout of additional units, Minnesota now has nearly300 IBIS handheld units for officer use throughout the State.Minnesota currently employs more than 9,000 law enforcement officers. The Minnesota IBIS deployment has been funded by grants from theNational Institute of Justice and the U.S. Department of Justice.
"The addition of Identix IBIS mobile identification solution tothe 'protect and serve' toolset of select Minnesota law enforcementofficers has resulted in more criminals being removed from ourstreets," said Jerry Olson, BCA Program Manager. "In addition tohelping us provide a safer and more secure environment for thecitizens of Minnesota, we have gained the added benefit of making ourofficers even more efficient and effective. Identification queries canbe confirmed in the field within a couple of minutes, eliminating thefrequent requirement for an officer to take himself or herself off thestreet to process a suspect ID. Our Officers are requesting this toolto assist them in carrying out their duties and we are pleased thatour most recent order is able to make this valuable technologyavailable to additional Officers across the State."
Identix President & CEO Dr. Joseph J. Atick commented, "Lawenforcement agencies across the Nation are enhancing the effectivenessand efficiency of their officers by arming them with the Identix IBISsolution and the ability to collect and search biometric data in thefield. These are important goals for any police department, and webelieve law enforcement agencies across the country are beginning torealize the benefits of this advanced technology. IBIS directlyaddresses issues presented to law enforcement officers every dayregarding encounters with subjects in the field that either have noform of identification or may proffer a fraudulent ID. The successstories from officers in Hennepin County, Ontario and Portland arebeing reported to fellow officers, which we believe, in conjunctionwith a focused marketing effort, is resulting in growing demand forour mobile ID solutions. Not only are IBIS users achieving fantasticresults and removing suspected criminals from the streets, but webelieve the ease of use and rapid response time for queries -generally under three minutes - makes IBIS a desired addition to anyofficer's crime fighting toolset. We look forward to continuing towork with Minnesota law enforcement agencies to support theirbiometric identification requirements."
