Hamilton College - Cedar Rapids to Graduate First Practical Nursing Class Today

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamilton College - Cedar Rapids announced today that it will host a graduation ceremony for 181 students on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006. The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre at 370 First Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. State Sen. Mary Lundby (R-Iowa), Republican Floor Leader for the Iowa Legislature, will keynote the ceremony.

The ceremony will recognize 181 students who have earned bachelor's degrees, associate's degrees and diplomas in programs ranging from business administration, computer information systems, allied health and criminal justice. Upon graduation, students will be prepared for entry-level jobs in their area of study.

Of the 181 graduating students, 49 will represent the school's first class from its Practical Nursing program. In order to help address the state's nursing shortage, Hamilton added practical nursing diploma programs at four of its campuses last year, including Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, Mason City and Des Moines. Each of the campuses can accommodate 48 to 128 nursing students per year. Upon completion of the program, students may be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

Hamilton College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the North Central Association. HLC can be reached at http://www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org/ or 1.312.263.0456.
