GoPro's Cool New 360-Degree Hero4Black
(RTTNews) - GoPro (GPRO) has unveiled two new hardware and the required software to capture high-resolution 360 degree virtual reality content.
GoPro launched Omni, a six-camera spherical array that allows professionals to shoot high-resolution 360 degree videos.
Videographers have to splurge $5,000 to buy Omni, which includes one GoPro Omni Sync Rig; a GoPro Kolor software license; six cameras; six mini USB cables, 32GB microSD cards, and card readers; a smart remote, and an "ultra compact, rugged" shipping case. Videographers who already own six GoPros cams can buy just the frame for $1,500.
Omni is available for pre-order starting Monday, April 18 at 8am PT.
The second product is Odyssey, a panoramic stereoscopic 16-camera rig that will work with Google's Jump VR Platform. Odyssey is only available via a limited access program. GoPro Odyssey is priced at $15,000.
"This high-end professional capture device is optimized for Google's cloud-based Jump Assembler, which automatically stitches the camera content into unrivaled panoramic stereoscopic 8K30 video that can be viewed via YouTube," GoPro said in a statement.
GoPro VR, a platform to view and share immersive content, will go live on Monday. Users can download it from App Store or Google Play.
