GM Recalls 824,000 More Vehicles In U.S.

(RTTNews) - General Motors Co. (GM) Friday announced it will recall a further 824,000 more vehicles in the U.S. The company said it will replace the ignition switch in all model years of its Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Pontiac G5, Solstice and Saturn Ion and Sky in the U.S.

"Trying to locate several thousand switches in a population of 2.2 million vehicles and distributed to thousands of retailers isn't practical. Out of an abundance of caution, we are recalling the rest of the model years," says CEO Mary Barra.

Including the 824,000 vehicles in the U.S., GM is to recall 971,000 cars worldwide, bringing the total to nearly 2.6 million, covering 2008-2011 models with service parts that may have been used for ignition repairs.

Around 95,00 faulty switches were sold to dealers and aftermarket wholesalers. Of those, approximately 90,000 were used for repairing older vehicles that were repaired before being recalled in February.

On March 17, GM said it is recalling about 1.55 million vehicles including full-size crossovers, vans and sedans in the U.S. to implement a range of repairs.
