Facebook Leaks New Snapchat-Style App

(RTTNews) - Facebook accidentally released an early preview of their new photo and video sharing app Slingshot earlier this week. The social networking giant has seemingly put app favorite Snapchat in its crosshairs with the new offering, which was briefly available in select US markets.

With the app Facebook users can send photo and video updates to other users, but unlike Snapchat friends can only see new content when they share something as well. The new app comes as part of Facebook's ongoing effort to deconstruct its mobile presence into many task-specific apps, according to techcrunch.com.

Facebook released an official statement about the mistaken early release on Monday writing:

"Earlier today, we accidentally released a version of Slingshot, a new app we're working on. With Slingshot, you'll be able to share everyday moments with lots of people at once. It'll be ready soon and we're excited for you to try it out."

No official release date has been confirmed thus far.
