Disney's ESPN Reaches Deal With Big Ten

(RTTNews) - ESPN has reached a deal to buy the second half of the Big Ten's media rights package, as the Walt Disney's sports network continues its 50-year relationship with Big Ten.

ESPN will pay an average of $190 million per year over six years for half the conference's media rights package. Meanwhile, Fox has already bought the other half of the Big Ten's media rights for $240 million per year, however, Fox also has the rights to the conference football championship game and advantage to choose games.

CBS will also renew its basketball-only package for $10 million per year through 2023.

Both ESPN and Fox deals combined with CBS basketball-only contract brings the Big Ten's total haul to $2.64 billion over six years.

ESPN's last deal with the Big Ten was signed in 2006 for $100 million annually. The new deal comes in effect next fall.

As per the new deals, ESPN and Fox will each get about 25 football games and 50 basketball games annually.
