Disney: "The Conners" Are Back, Minus Raunchy Roseanne

(RTTNews) - ABC announced its decision launch a reboot series of its hit show "Roseanne", however, without Barr, who was fired about a month ago for her racist tweets.

"The Conners" is the working title of the new sitcom, which is being billed as a spin-off of "Roseanne," and will include the original show's main characters, except for Roseanne Barr.

"Roseanne Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the new series," ABC said in a statement.

In May, ABC fired Roseanne Barr and canceled its hit sitcom "Roseanne" after the show's star made a racist tweet. Pre-production for the second season of "Roseanne" was already underway at that time and was scheduled for Tuesdays at 8 p.m. this fall.

The US comedian Roseanne Barr created an uproar on Twitter and Facebook after she posted a racist tweet likening an African-American former Obama aide to an ape. Barr said that Valerie Jarrett, an African-American, was the child of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes.

She later apologized to Jarett and to all Americans, but continued to defend her remarks by saying it was a "joke" but "in bad taste".

Disney CEO Bob Iger had backed ABC's decision to fire Barr and said it was "only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing."

Barr's talent agency, ICM Partners, also dropped her.
