Disney Sued By Former Contractor For Alleged Racial Harassment

(RTTNews) - Disney has been slapped with a lawsuit by a former contractor, for racial discrimination and harassment by both employees and executives at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The former contractor, Monica Shaw, who worked for about fifteen months at Disney before she was fired, says she was mistreated over her updo hairstyle and the heels she preferred to wear, despite having complied with Disney's Look Book.

In the lawsuit, Shaw mentions about a tiff with a Disney executive who said her shoes were "spiked pumps", and white colleagues asking if she had chitterlings.

Shaw is reported to have worked at Disney world for about fifteen months until February 2014. According to the lawsuit, Shaw was told when she was fired "it is nothing you have done wrong."

"My non-black coworkers were never complained of, chastised nor embarrassed for wearing clothing that complied with Disney's Look Book," Shaw says in the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Disney's website describes the Disney Look as "a classic look that is clean, natural, polished and professional, and avoids 'cutting edge' trends or extreme styles."

The website says female employees' "hair should be neatly combed and arranged in a classic, easy-to-maintain style. Extreme styles are not permitted."
