DeVry University Names Three New Advisory Board Members
DeVry University announced today that it has appointed W. David Baker, Dr. Marilyn C. Beck and Janet L. Walsh to its national advisory board. The three engineering, education and human resources leaders join a network of experts who bring unique knowledge and skills to enhance the university’s value to students and the communities it serves.

- W. David Baker, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), professor emeritus, director of the school of engineering technology (retired). Before RIT, Baker was the chair of the electrical engineering technology department at SUNY College of Technology. Baker is a resident of Canandaigua, N.Y., and a life member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Additionally, Baker’s industrial/professional life included time at Bell Telephone Laboratories and the National Science Foundation.
- Dr. Marilyn C. Beck, Calhoun Community College of Decatur, Ala., president. Beck became the fourth president and first woman president of Calhoun Community College in Jan. 2003. Prior to her appointment, she served for 15 years as the first female president at Lord Fairfax Community College in Virginia. Beck is a lifelong educator who serves on a number of professional and community boards and has received awards for contributions in education.
- Janet L. Walsh is the president of Birchtree-HR, LLC, a global human capital firm providing consulting services, integrated start-up solutions and education programs specifically designed to increase financial performance in organizations. She has spent 25 years as a senior HR executive in large multinational firms in addition to being an author, educator and consultant. Walsh has worked in more than 60 countries and is the host of an acclaimed internet broadcast show offering advice on improving business performance. She is a senior adjunct professor at Keller Graduate School of Management.
The three advisory board members will begin their role effective June 1, 2009. Members serve on the board for three years and provide strategic guidance toward the development of DeVry University’s programs and services.
