DeVry University and its Keller Graduate School of Management to Open Center in Palmdale
DeVry University, one of North America's largest degree-granting higher
education institutions for business, technology, and management
education, announced today that it has begun recruiting for the
university's soon-to-open center serving the Los Angeles County
communities of Palmdale and Lancaster. Expected to open in mid-March,
the newest Southern California location of DeVry University and its
Keller Graduate School of Management will be located at 38256 Sierra
Highway in the Palmdale Civic Center complex. Until then, the university
is accepting enrollment applications through its Sherman Oaks location.
DeVry University Palmdale will offer the school’s
bachelor degree programs in Business Administration and Technical
Management as well as associate degree programs in Electronics and
Computer Technology and Network Systems Administration. DeVry will offer
degree programs year-round at the Palmdale location, allowing students
to earn a bachelor's degree in three years or less and an associate's
degree in two years or less. DeVry University’s
Keller Graduate School of Management will also offer a number of master
degree programs in business and technology. DeVry University is
accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central
Association.
"DeVry University is answering a serious need
for providing expanded higher education opportunities to Antelope Valley
area residents,” said Palmdale mayor James C.
Ledford, Jr. "Whether through enrollment or
having access to a more educated and skilled workforce, our city and its
surrounding communities will most assuredly benefit from DeVry’s
reputable degree program offerings.”
System-wide, 93 percent of DeVry’s October ’06
and February and June ’07 graduates in the
active job market were employed in their fields within six months of
graduation at an average salary of $43,000. DeVry's Southern California
region, from which the Palmdale center will receive its Career Services
support, also achieved a 93 percent graduate employment rate for the
same time period.
Additional achievements by DeVry also confirm the university's
commitment to Los Angeles County’s
significant Hispanic and Latino population, which per the 2005 U.S.
Census, has grown to 47.3 percent, the largest of any county in the
nation. According to its annual report of the "Top 100 Degree Producers"
for minority graduates, the educational trade publication Diverse:
Issues in Higher Education showed that DeVry University California
is the number one producer of Hispanic graduates earning bachelor's
degrees in the field of Computer and Information Science and Support
Services in the United States. For this same category, DeVry University
campuses in Illinois, Florida and Texas ranked fourth, eighth, and
twenty-seventh, respectively, in the June 2007 report.
"We are exited to be located in a complex
that is associated with the NASA AERO Institute and puts DeVry among a
concentration of industry leading companies and peer academic
institutions,” said Bill Van Zwol, president
of DeVry University Southern California. "DeVry looks forward to
developing a long-term relationship as a valued education partner with
the cities and surrounding communities of Palmdale and Lancaster.”
DeVry University’s local expansion with the
opening of its new Palmdale location comes as the school commemorates
its 25th anniversary in Southern California
later this year. DeVry’s first Southern
California campus opened in 1983. Initially located in City of Industry,
the original campus relocated to Pomona in 1993. Since then, DeVry
University has expanded to seven current locations across Southern
California and a total of 13 locations statewide, including Bakersfield,
Fremont, Fresno, Colton (Inland Empire), Irvine, Long Beach, Pomona,
Sacramento (Elk Grove), San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose and the
Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles. More than 18,900 California students
have graduated from DeVry University, with more than 6,000 students
currently attending statewide.
Additional information about the bachelor's degree programs to be
offered by DeVry University Palmdale can be obtained by calling the
