Chevrolet Feature Alerts Owner If Car Is Stolen
(RTTNews) - Chevrolet has introduced a new safety feature for cars equipped with OnStar services that will alert the vehicle owners in real time if someone attempts to steal their vehicle. The Theft Alarm Notification feature will be available to eligible subscribers later this summer.
Chevrolet noted that the theft alarm notification is an enhancement to the existing Stolen Vehicle Assistance service that enables OnStar subscribers to receive a real-time alert when the vehicle's alarm sounds.
OnStar, a subsidiary of GM Holdings LLC, is a provider of emergency, security, navigation, diagnostic and connectivity services. OnStar serves 7 million subscribers in North America and China.
The theft alarm notification feature adds to existing security features such as Remote Ignition Block and Stolen Vehicle Slowdown. With the theft alarm notification, OnStar subscribers can opt in to receive an alert through text, email or phone if a theft attempt triggers their vehicle's alarm system and the alarm sounds.
Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing said, "Prompt response and quick awareness of theft situations give customers a greater chance to recover stolen property. By leveraging the connection that OnStar provides, Chevrolet owners can remain in contact with their vehicle, even when it is out of sight."
In the event a properly equipped Chevrolet car is stolen, OnStar advisors will work with local authorities and use GPS technology to pinpoint the vehicle's location. In certain models and in safe conditions, advisors can send a signal to slow down the vehicle, thus helping police officers in its recovery and preventing a potential high-speed chase.
The Theft Alarm Notification feature is included within OnStar's Stolen Vehicle Assistance service. It is available to subscribers as part of the Security or Guidance subscription package and a compatible vehicle.
Chevrolet noted that most 2014 model year and newer Chevrolet vehicles are equipped to offer theft alarm notification.
