(RTTNews) - Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (CHKP), the largest pure-play security vendor globally, Monday said first-quarter net income increased to $160.88 million from $153.1 million in the previous year. Earnings per share advanced to $0.86 from $0.78.

Adjusted earnings per share totaled $0.95, while it was $0.84 last year. On average, 26 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.91 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenue increased 9 percent to $373 million from $342.2 million in the prior year. Analysts expected revenues of $370.35 million.

Gil Shwed, founder, chairman, and chief executive officer, said, "We are very pleased with the results of the first quarter. We continued to see success in all major geographies and delivered 11 percent growth in combined product and software blade revenues."
