Cadbury's English-Made Chocolates Banned From U.S.

(RTTNews) - English-made Cadbury chocolates will no longer be available in the United States, the result of a settlement between Hershey and a New Jersey-based import company.

Beloved treats such as the Cadbury Creme Egg will only be sold in the U.S. using American chocolate, angering those who say the creamier English chocolate is far superior.

The deal also means no more imports of British-made KitKat bars, Toffee Crisps, Yorkie bars, and Maltesers.

Hershey claimed that Let's Buy British Imports, (LBB), the leading importer of foods from the U.K. to America, was infringing on its trademark and trade dress licensing.

"It is important for Hershey to protect its trademark rights and to prevent consumers from being confused or misled when they see a product name or product package that is confusingly similar to a Hershey name or trade dress," a Hershey representative told the New York Times.

A petition in protest of Hershey currently has more than 8,000 signatures at MoveOn.org, and social media erupted over the news.

"The fine people at Coke thought the small change they made to their recipe in the early '80s was for the best as well," wrote one Cadbury fan on Facebook.

No stiff upper lip at Tea&Sympathy, a popular New York city purveyor of British goods that was particularly snippy on their company Facebook page:

"Due to legal action by the so-called chocolate maker Hersheys, we can no longer import the real Cadbury chocolate from England. They want us to sell their dreadful Cadbury approximation but we can't in good conscience sell you such awful chocolate when we have made our reputation on selling you the yummy real English stuff."

Americans in proximity to Canada can breathe easier, as the original Creme Egg and other treats will be still be available north of the border.
