Awards celebrate quality and professionalism in renovation industry

GREATER TORONTO, March 12, 2018 /CNW/ - The GTA's top renovators and custom home builders have been recognized by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) at its annual Renovation and Custom Home Awards.

Created by BILD in 1999, the awards program recognizes professional renovation general contractors for professionalism, quality of work and industry leadership. Nominees are evaluated by a team of industry professionals. The Renovator of the Year award, which recognizes the renovator who sets the standard for the rest of the sector in leadership and commitment to customer service and contribution to the overall image of the renovation industry, is also decided based on survey results from clients.

This year, the Renovator of the Year award was presented to Golden Bee Homes.

"Golden Bee Homes' clients speak highly of the excellence of the company's work as well as their professionalism and courtesy," says Helen Batista, BILD's vice-president of membership and RenoMark program manager. "The company also gives back generously to the industry, with owner Jack Torossian serving as vice-chair of BILD's Renovator and Custom Builder Council and volunteering as a presenter for our renovation seminars for consumers."

Golden Bee Homes also earned the award for the Best Renovation $75,000 to $150,000, for a project that modernized a kitchen, dining room and living room, as well as two upstairs washrooms and an exterior deck. Design credit goes to HSK Designs.

The Best Renovation Under $75,000 was awarded to Bramson Construction for transforming a kitchen, dining and living area into a unified, streamlined space.

Urbanline Architecture won the Best Renovation $150,000 to $300,000 award for the conversion of a dated house into a light-filled, contemporary home. The company also won for Best Renovation $300,000 to $500,000, for the transformation of a mid-size, three-storey house into flexible, multi-purpose spaces for a growing family. Design credit for both projects goes to Urbanscape Architects.

Lewitt Construction won the award for Best Renovation $500,000 or more, for the conversion of a 1920s house into a bright, open home with high-end finishes such as walnut floors, a steel and glass staircase, and custom millwork.

W.C Meek Design and Construction won the award for Best Condominium Renovation for a transformation that included opening up the main living spaces by removing interior walls and installing low-maintenance flooring for the client's dogs.

SevernWoods Construction was presented with the Best Custom Home award for creating an architecturally significant home that will provide comfortable living spaces for family life and large events.

"This year's winners truly exemplify the quality and integrity that home owners can expect when working with professional renovators and custom builders," says Ms. Batista.

All award winners are members of the national RenoMark program, which connects homeowners with professional renovators who have agreed to abide by a renovation-specific Code of Conduct. Contact information for all RenoMark renovators is accessible on www.renomark.ca.

Before-and-after photos of the entries can be viewed at BILD's Destination Renovation exhibit, located at booth 2338 at the National Home Show. The Show runs March 9-18 at the Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place.

A complete list of winners can be found in the GTA section of www.renomark.ca.
