Assisi Animal Health Discusses the Difference Between Pasture Boarding and Stall Boarding
PINEHURST, N.C., Jan. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Assisi Animal Health developed the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as a PEMF therapy for animals. The Loop helps heal wounds and relieve pain in horses, cats, and dogs. Assisi Animal Health discusses the difference between pasture boarding and stall boarding.
When deciding whether to pasture board or stall board your horse, there are several factors to take into consideration. Keeping a horse in a pasture is easier than stall boarding, however, the pasture must have land that adequately provides shelter, grazing, and water for your horse. Assuming the pasture meets these conditions, the horse will only need to be visited once a day for feeding, water supply checks, and quick examinations for signs of injury or illness. If your horse is pasture boarded, he or she may need a blanket for protection during the colder months.
In addition to being more expensive, stall boarding your horse is also a bit more time-consuming. Frequently, stall boarding is a necessary precaution during the winter to protect horses from the elements. If your horse is being stall boarded, grooming, exercise, and stable care are daily requirements. While these tasks can take several hours per day, they are an integral part of keeping a horse happy and healthy. Since your horse's mobility is obviously limited in a stall, they should be allowed out several times a day to graze and exercise. Spending time in the pasture helps your horse to improve its temperament, hooves, and coat.
In a perfect world, horses should spend as much time as possible in their natural habitat: the pasture. That said, a combination of both stall and pasture boarding is still healthy for horses depending on the time of year. During the colder months, let your horse roam the pasture during the day, and spend its nights in a warm stall. Conversely, during the hotter summer days, your horse can be in its stall during the day and turned out at night to protect it from the sun. Regardless of the season, you (the owner) must know your horse and what is best for them to keep them active, happy, and healthy!
