ELETROBRAS: Despite Court Ruling, Employees Decide To Keep Strike
(RTTNews) - Eletrobras employees decided to keep their 72-hour strike despite a ruling by Brazil's Superior Labor Court (TST) that the demonstrations could not interrupt the company's operation.
In the assembly, 75% of the workers decided to keep the strike, even if that leads to sanctions against the entities representing the class. According to the National Electricity Collective (CNE), the decision was taken from workers' meetings held at each of the headquarters of the holding company and its subsidiaries or from the company's ventures.
Most of the regional units of Eletrobras generation and transmission companies (Furnas, Eletronorte, Chesf, and Eletrosul) remain on strike.
The workers held a meeting Tuesday with the speaker of the House of Representatives, Rodrigo Maia, and the lawmaker Jose Carlos Aleluia. According to the CNE, lawmakers said that they would study changes to accommodate workers' claims in the bill that deals with Eletrobras' privatization.
