BRAZIL: Retail Sales Rise Unexpectedly In April
(RTTNews) - Retail sales in Brazil rose unexpectedly in April, with a monthly increase of 1.0% and a 1.9% advance compared to April 2016, according to the national statistics office. Analysts expected retail sales to decline 0.65% month-on-month and 2.20% annually.
Groceries and tobacco sales boosted April's results, rising 0.9% from March and 3.5% compared to April 2016. Clothing sales were also a bright spot, increasing 3.5% and 10.8%, respectively.
In 2017 until April, though, retail sales are still down 1.6%.
