BRAZIL: 2017 Total Crop Production Expected To Post 30.3% Yearly Increase
(RTTNews) - The Brazilian crop production of cereals, vegetables and oil seeds are expected to reach 242.0 million tons in 2017, up 30.3% over the 2016 harvest (185.8 million tons), said the country's statistics office. In volume, the increase would be of 56.2 million tons.
According to IBGE, the Brazilian statistics office, the estimate for the area to be harvested this year is 61.2 million hectares, a 7.3% increase over the harvested area in the previous year.
In comparison with the previous survey, released in August, the estimate for this year's harvest increased by 0.5% (1.1 million tons), while for the harvested area grew by 0.2% (143.6 thousand hectares).
Rice, corn and soybeans are the three main products of the Brazilian crop and represent 93.7% of the production estimate and 87.9% of the area to be harvested. Compared to the previous year, there was an increase of 2.2% in soybean, 19.4% in corn and 3.9% in rice areas. In production, there was a 19.5% increase for soybeans, 16.2% for rice and 55.2% for corn.
