Energy Sipping RCA Audio/Video Products Can Help Trim Home Power Consumption

In an effort to address energy conservation in the home, Thomson Audio/Video has tripled the number of Energy Star qualified RCA Audio/Video products and plans to increase the energy efficiency of more products. In accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR program requirements, RCA Bookshelf Audio Systems, DVD players, and Home Theater Audio Systems are now more energy efficient than ever – consuming less than one-watt of power in standby mode and qualifying for the ENERGY STAR mark of energy efficiency. "We know that consumers are looking for energy-efficient products that work well,” said Dan Collishaw, Chief Operating Officer of Thomson’s Audio/Video business. "According to the Department of Energy, 40 percent of electricity used to power home electronics is consumed while the products are turned off. Using Energy Star products not only saves on power, but helps prevent air pollution and offers a considerable amount of savings on home energy bills.” In addition to developing energy-efficient audio/video products for the home, Thomson will save more than 450 tons of plastic in the next two years by making smaller, environmentally-friendly paper gift box containers that will replace the plastic packages. This "Smart Packing” RCA Audio/Video initiative has already saved over 81 tons of plastic and has minimized the usage of environmentally harmful materials.
