RWE AG -- Moody's: Post-COP21 decarbonisation policies in the EU will shape the European electricity sector

London, 14 December 2015 -- According to Moody's Investors Service, the agreement reached at the end of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) reinforces the pursuit of decarbonisation policies in the EU. Although the deal confirms the momentum for tackling climate change, and reinforces policies restricting greenhouse gas emissions, the Paris Agreement does not provide detailed objectives relative to greenhouse gas emissions nor does it impose any legal obligation to limit or reduce them. As a result, Moody's expects that energy policies in the EU will remain one of the main drivers of the credit quality of European unregulated utilities.
