Zhone Technologies Expands Business in Asia with Viewqwest

Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZHNE), a global pioneer in FTTx network access solutions, announced today that Viewqwest Limited, an internet service provider in Singapore, has chosen its industry-leading MXK™ multi-service access node (MSAN) system and Zhone Network Interface device (zNID) optical network terminals (ONT) to serve as a core enabler of Viewqwest’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) network. Working with Zhone’s partner Connect Network Limited, Zhone’s GPON solutions will provide advanced connectivity to Viewqwest customers, including small- and medium-sized enterprises throughout Singapore.

"Since our deployment of Zhone’s MXK solution went live in October 2010, Viewqwest is now capable of delivering the fastest – and most reliable – connection available in Singapore to its enterprise customers,” noted Vignesa Moorthy, chief executive officer of Viewqwest. "Our continued relationship with Zhone is perpetually valuable for the advanced connectivity, improved network quality and service consistency.”

MXK’s industry reputation as the highest performance access solution for fiber networks was only one of the reasons for Viewqwest’s adoption – the service provider also needed a high density GPON system with cost-effective scalability and the MXK was the right fit. The platform’s ease of operation and its extended reach will allow Viewqwest to reduce the number of deployment sites, significantly reducing expenditures.

"The deployment with Viewqwest is Zhone’s biggest win in Singapore for GPON; we continue to see a global adoption trend toward GPON and our MXK is the solution known for reliability and density,” said Brian Caskey, chief marketing officer for Zhone. "Viewqwest is a close partner for Zhone and now we are pleased to partner with them to deliver GPON-based advance connectivity to its customers in Singapore. The MXK is an ideal solution for the bandwidth demands and can position them for future expansion.”

Zhone’s MXK platform is a fully redundant, carrier-grade all-IP platform and the industry’s first terabit access concentrator. Featuring industry-leading density, scalability and switching capacity, the MXK provides non-blocking capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet subscribers. In addition, MXK’s ability to support for Active Ethernet and GPON on the same system enables Viewqwest to configure its networks with maximum flexibility and efficiency. Zhone’s future-proof MXK platform also offers Viewquest multi-access points at highly efficient capacities and costs and enables the utility to seamlessly and cost-effectively integrate additional broadband technologies such as 10G GPON as consumer demand dictate in the future and technologies evolve to support higher bandwidth.
