YouTube To Release New App For Children

(RTTNews) - Google Inc.'s (GOOG, GOOGL) online video service YouTube plans to release a new app for children next week, to be known as YouTube Kids.

YouTube Kids, which will focus on content for children, will run on smartphones and tablets. The free app will be available for download from February 23.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal said the new app could feature original episodes of popular television shows for preschoolers as well as content from some kid-safe channels featured on YouTube.

The app will be separate from the mainstream YouTube mobile app. It is expected to have a kid-friendly design, with big, bulbous icons and minimal scrolling. YouTube Kids is expected to have parental controls such as a timer to limit video-watching.
