WellCare to Award $11,000 in Micro-Grants to Support Social Service Agencies in New Jersey

NEWARK, N.J. and TAMPA, Fla., March 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), announced today that it will award $11,000 in micro-grants to support social service organizations in New Jersey that address the needs of caregivers, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer (LGBTQ) community, and substance use disorder, including opioids.

Nonprofit and 501(c)(3) organizations that offer services in these areas are encouraged to apply. The micro-grants will be awarded in denominations of $1,000 and $1,500.

"Funding cuts to social services programs have severely impacted the social safety net in New Jersey. This has led to the need for creative, local solutions coming from new and non-traditional partnerships," said Aviva Woog, advocacy manager for WellCare. Qualifying organizations can apply by completing a short application online at http://www.thecommunitycommitment.org/micro-grant-request-submission. Grant applications are accepted until April 15, 2017. Applicants must answer all of the questions in the portal in order to be considered.

As of Dec. 31, 2016, WellCare serves approximately 94,000 members in New Jersey, including 57,000 Medicaid members, 2,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 31,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members.
