Vera Bradley Payment System Hacked
(RTTNews) - Vera Bradley Inc. (VRA) Wednesday reported a data security issue that may have affected payment cards used at its retail stores between July 25 and September 23.
The company said that not all cards used during this time frame were affected. Cards used on Vera Bradley website have not been affected.
Vera Bradley said the law enforcement notified the company about a potential data security leak on September 15. The company immediately notified the payment card networks and initiated an investigation with the assistance of a leading computer security firm.
The investigation revealed unauthorized access to Vera Bradley's payment processing system and the installation of a program that was specifically designed to find track data in the magnetic stripe of a payment card which contains the card number, cardholder name, expiration date, and internal verification code.
Vera Bradley said it will continue to work with the computer security firm to further strengthen the security of systems to help prevent this from happening again.
Vera Bradley has asked its customers to report any unauthorized charges to the card issuer.
VRA is currently trading at $14.40, down $0.14 or 0.96%, on the NYSE.
