"We are pleased that the Senate, after months of delay, finally confirmed Gina McCarthy as the next Administrator of the U.S. EPA. The USW worked with Ms. McCarthy in her role as the head of EPA's Office of Air and Radiation where she proved to be a pragmatic and reasoned leader who understood that environmental policies can also serve to spur economic growth. She garnered the respect of labor, industry and environmental groups alike.
"We look forward to working with Ms. McCarthy as she assumes her role of Administrator and begins to work on those policies that govern our nation's air and water, including aspects of the climate plan President Obama announced earlier this summer.
"The USW could not more strongly support the confirmation of Ms. McCarthy."
The USW represents about 850,000 workers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glassmaking to mining, steel, oil, paper, tire and rubber to the public sector, service and health care industries. For more information: www.usw.org
