US Electronic Component Shipments to Rise 1.7% Annually in Nominal Terms to 2022

CLEVELAND, Sept. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- US shipments of electronic components are forecast to expand 1.7% yearly in nominal terms at the manufacturer level to 2022, according to Electronic Components: United States, a report by Freedonia Focus Reports. The continued electrification in various sectors, such as motor vehicles and buildings (e.g., smart homes), will drive shipments, as will ongoing demand for electronic devices such as smartphones.

Shipments will continue to be supported by intensifying use of electronic systems across a broadening range of products. For instance, hybrid- and all-electric vehicles employ electronics more extensively than internal combustion engine powered vehicles. The increasing prevalence of advanced driver assistant systems – including adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, back-up cameras, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and parking assistance – will also support demand for electronic components in the automotive industry.

These and other key insights are featured in Electronic Components: United States. This report forecasts to 2022 US electronic component shipments in nominal US dollars at the manufacturer level. Total shipments are segmented by product in terms of:

  • integrated circuits
  • other semiconductors such as transistors, rectifiers, and diodes, as well as an array of semiconductor parts, including wafers, chips, and heat sinks
  • printed circuit assemblies
  • connectors
  • printed circuit boards
  • other electronic components such as inductors, capacitors, electron tubes (including vacuum tubes and thermionic valves), and resistors

To illustrate historical trends, total shipments, the various segments, and trade are provided in annual series from 2007 to 2017.

Electrical connectors – such as plugs, bus bars, twist-on wire connectors, and terminals – are excluded from the scope of this report. Re-exports of electronic components are excluded from trade figures.
Key macroeconomic indicators are also provided with quantified trends. Other various topics, including profiles of pertinent leading suppliers, are covered in this report. A full outline of report items by page is available in the Table of Contents.
