Unum Group Q1 Profit Rises 5%

(RTTNews) - Unum Group (UNM) released earnings for its first quarter that rose from last year.

The company said its bottom line climbed to $236.1 million, or $1.02 per share. This was up from $224.2 million, or $0.94 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $1.00 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter rose 2.2% to $2.81 billion. This was up from $2.75 billion last year.
