UHLC and Calgary law school host symposium on shared energy and environmental issues

HOUSTON, Feb. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The University of Houston Law Center and the University of Calgary Faculty of Law are co-sponsoring a two-day symposium on February 23-24, 2017, which will focus on energy and environmental issues facing North America.

The inaugural "North American Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Symposium," will be held at the Law Center campus. The event will feature as many as 30 industry, academic, and government speakers participating in a wide range of workshops and presentations.

Symposium topics include:

  • Impact of Global Climate Change Initiatives on Energy Systems
  • Multi-lateral Agreements and their Impact on Energy Systems
  • Systemic Challenges to Sustainable Energy Development, and
  • Multi-Jurisdictional Energy Systems

"As the climate increasingly becomes a pressing concern, it is important to discuss the challenges and limitations of law on an international scale," said Darren Bush, Leonard B. Rosenberg College Professor of Law and director of the Environment, Energy & Natural Resources Center at UHLC.

In 2012, the UH Law Center and Calgary school of law launched the International Energy Lawyers Program, which allows students to earn both Canadian and American law degrees in four years.  Students spend two years at each school and take courses that will enable them to apply for admission to bars in the United States and Canada.

Cost of the symposium is $150 for lawyers, $50 for academics, and free for students. For more detailed information and a list of participants, please visit law.uh.edu/eenrcenter/symposium/homepage.asp or contact Charlette Jefferson at 713-743-2120 or cmjeffer@Central.UH.EDU.
