U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s March On Washington and Foundational "I Have A Dream" Address To The Nation

WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The United States Commission on Civil Rights celebrates the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic March on Washington on August 28, 1963.  The Commission urges the public to participate in the many opportunities during the week of August 21 – 28 to participate, learn, put into practice and appreciate the ideas and changes introduced by Dr. King's words and actions on that remarkable occasion.

Below are just a few of the many sources of information and activities planned for this important week.  The Commission continues to draw inspiration and purpose from Dr. King's life, vision, words and deeds in its activities and projects.

Chairman Castro stated, "Dr. King's Dream sparked a revolution.  However, that revolution remains a work in progress.  As we commemorate this important day let us also rededicate ourselves to make all aspects of the Dream a reality."

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights is an independent, bipartisan agency charged with monitoring federal civil rights enforcement.  Members include Chairman Martin R.
