Twitter's China Head Kathy Chen Quits
(RTTNews) - Twitter's China operations head Kathy Chen has announced her departure after eight months in office, following the Asian business restructuring.
Announcing her decision over the weekend, Chen wrote on Twitter, "Now that the Twitter APAC team is working directly with Chinese advertisers, this is the right time for me to leave the company."
She also said that she was taking some time off to recharge, study about different cultures and then pursue more international business opportunities.
Chen said that Twitter's Asia-Pacific team in Singapore will now handle Chinese advertisers.
Hong Kong-based Chen was hired as managing director for Twitter's China region in April 2016. Previously, she had worked for Cisco and Microsoft, and also used to be in the Chinese military.
Twitter is blocked by government censors in mainland China, while it is freely accessible in Hong Kong and Taiwan. However, the company lets Chinese advertisers reach a global audience.
In her messages, Chen claimed that revenue from Chinese advertising partners had soared 400% in the past two years.
Chen joins other high-profile Twitter executives who resigned recently from the troubled firm, including longtime Chief technology officer Adam Messinger and chief operating officer Adam Bain.
