Twitter: Longer Tweets Start Next Week

(RTTNews) - Starting September 19, Twitter Inc. (TWTR) is reportedly set to increase its 140-character limit.

According to The Verge, Twitter will change the criteria as to what it counts toward the 140-character count. Twitter will allow its users to add in to their tweets @usernames, videos, GIFs, links, and quoted tweets and will not count it against the 140-character limit.

This decision was earlier announced in May, however, the date when the decision would be implemented was not disclosed.

Links currently take up 23 characters, even after Twitter automatically shortens them.
