Turks and Caicos Real Estate Broker Blair MacPherson Congratulates TCI Police Commissioner on Lower Crime Rates

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos, BWI, May 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police has released its crime statistics for the first quarter of 2018, reporting a 14 percent reduction in the overall crime rate in TCI for the period between January and April 2018, compared to the same period in 2017. This amounts to 364 fewer crimes.

"James Smith has been our police commissioner since 2015, and he and the entire TCI police department have done a fantastic job at keeping these islands safe for residents and tourists alike," says Blair MacPherson, broker and co-owner of RE/MAX Real Estate Group Turks & Caicos Islands. "Commissioner Smith is deeply committed to public safety, which is evident by the lower crime rates. I would like to congratulate him and his entire staff on a job well done, and thank them for their service."

According to Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police statistics, the 14 percent lower crime rate for the first quarter of 2018 follows a 14 percent reduction in crime between 2017 and 2016, and a 26 percent reduction between 2015 and 2016. Taken together, the overall crime in Turks and Caicos has gone down by 32 percent during the last three years.

Broken down by specific types of crimes, the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police reports there were 42 percent fewer murders for the first quarter of 2018 compared to the first quarter of 2017, from seven to four. Burglaries and aggravated burglaries have decreased by 47 percent for the same period, from 703 last year to 376 this year. The number of robberies are down 11 percent, with 118 for the first quarter of 2018 compared to 134 for the same period in 2017. There has also been a 17 percent reduction in the number of people arrested for the possession of drugs, and a 4 percent reduction in arrests for possession of drugs with intent to supply.

"While Turks and Caicos has never had a high crime rate and has long been one of the safest places to live and visit in the Caribbean, there was a slight peak in crime a few years back which is said to have been caused by the recession of 2014," MacPherson notes. "Of course, it's good to hear that even the minimal amount of crime we have had on our islands is indeed subsiding."

MacPherson is always happy to talk with people who are considering relocating to Turks or Caicos or interested in TCI real estate opportunities.
