TSX Crawls High To End Sleepy July -- Canadian Commentary
(RTTNews) - Canadian stocks nudged higher Monday, ending a topsy turvy month with a miniscule daily advance for Toronto's main index.
Energy stocks continued to struggle, however, even as crude oil prices jumped to the verge of $50 a barrel.
Financials gave the broader market a measure of support today. The TSX Composite was
WestJet Airline Ltd. (WJA.TO) said it has suffered an online breach and some of the personal information of its customers was exposed online.
The Canadian airline said it has become aware that some WestJet Rewards member profile data was disclosed online by an "unauthorized third party". However, the disclosed data did not contain credit card or banking information.
Shares were up 3.8 percent.
Plane maker Bombardier (BBD.B.TO) was upgraded by Raymond James on its CSeries outlook.
A U.S. activist shareholder wants to overhaul Hudson's Bay (HBC.TO) board if the Canadian retailer does not move quickly to sell and redevelop its real estate assets, the Globe and Mail reports. Shares rose 1 percent.
