Transition Networks Discusses Next-Generation SCADA Networks at UTC Telecom & Technology 2017
MINNEAPOLIS, May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Transition Networks, Inc., a leading provider of innovative, high-value, data network integration solutions, today announced that its network solutions experts will speak at UTC Telecom & Technology 2017, taking place May 8-12 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The UTC Annual Conference brings together thousands of information and communications technology (ICT) professionals and technology partners for training, workshops, round-tables, and summits covering all aspects of the ICT industry.
On Wednesday, May 10 at 9:15 am in room 212 A/B, Dennis Troxel, Principal Sales Engineer for Transition Networks, will speak as part of a track entitled "SCADA Communications and AMI Evolution." The track will cover five key Utility Communications areas including Serial Convergence in an "Open" Network, Security Surveillance with Advanced PoE and IP Thermal Technology, Preserving Legacy Infrastructure for new IP/Ethernet Broadband Connectivity, 4G LTE used as a Backup or Primary Connection and AMI Evolution. Troxel will be joined by Mark Bowman of Georgia System Operations Corp., Billy Wise of Gresco and Rick Schmidt of Power System Engineering, Inc.
Transition Networks' utility and industrial product offering include media conversion, serial device servers, Layer 2 aggregation, and edge switches. Products that will be featured at their booth (#920) during the UTC Telecom & Technology 2017 show include:
- The new family of Smart Managed PoE+ Switches that feature Device Management System (DMS), which offers advanced tools for management of connected IP-based powered devices. The DMS capability built into the switches provides time-saving features enabling utility network administrators to establish and document a baseline deployment, automatically discover and remotely configure attached IP-addressable powered devices (PDs), and monitor and automatically restart edge devices using auto power reset functionality.
- Also on display will be Transition Networks' alternate cabling network extenders for PoE+ applications. These include an Ethernet Over 2-Wire Extender With PoE+ and an Ethernet Over Coax Extender With PoE+. Both devices reduce cost and accelerate time to service by utilizing existing coaxial cabling infrastructure to connect and power IP devices, such as in analog to IP surveillance camera upgrades.
"Integrating SCADA with IP networks for better management and cyber security visibility is a critical issue facing utilities today. It's a complicated challenge, and we appreciate the UTC team for inviting us to help shed some light on the topic," said Scott Otis, President of Transition Networks. "Dennis brings nearly 40 years of experience in the telecommunications space, providing a unique perspective for conference attendees."
