The true north, strong and stable: 'Manitoba's Top Employers' for 2018 are announced
WINNIPEG, Nov. 29, 2017 /CNW/ - Perhaps it's because of the long years that Manitoba sat in the East Division of the Canadian Football League. Or maybe it's because the province occupies the longitudinal centre of Canada. There's something unique about Manitoba that lets the province weather economic cycles – and produce exceptional employers. The very best of these were recognized this morning, as this year's Manitoba's Top Employers were announced.
"Manitoba is fortunate to have a stable economic base that provides a durable foundation for many of the winners on this year's list, says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. "The stability of the province's economy gives employers the resources and time they need to adapt to changing conditions and introduce new HR programs like workplace wellness, diversity and accessibility."
"For more than a decade, we have released our annual appraisal of the best places to work in Manitoba," notes Anthony Meehan, Publisher at Mediacorp Canada Inc. "The competition winners reflect the province's strong economic base, from aerospace to finance and the public sector. Manitobans should be proud of these exceptional organizations, which compare highly favourably to similar employers in other parts of Canada."
Many of the employers on this year's list place a priority on developing the skills of employees and investing in the next generation of talent. Winnipeg-based Arctic Co-operatives was recognized for their co-op placements and summer employment for young people, while aircraft manufacturer Boeing Canada was singled out for its generous employee tuition subsidies up to $25,000.
Published annually since 2006, Manitoba's Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes Manitoba employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers were evaluated by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in Manitoba; employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.
