The Hartford Adds Two Members, Paul G. Kirk And Thomas A. Renyi, To Its Board Of Directors

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG) today announced the appointment of two members to the company’s Board of Directors. Paul G. Kirk returns to the Board after filling the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Massachusetts Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Thomas A. Renyi, the retired Executive Chairman of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, joins the Board after a career spanning nearly forty years in the financial services industry.

Kirk, 72, currently serves as Chairman and President and a Director of Kirk & Associates, Inc., a business advisory and consulting firm. He served as Treasurer of the Democratic Party of the United States from 1983 to 1985 and as Chairman from 1985 until 1989. He retired from the law firm of Sullivan & Worcester in 2000, having become a partner of the firm in 1977, and of Counsel to the firm in 1990. Kirk serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Rayonier, Inc. and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Cedar Shopping Centers, Inc. from 2005 to 2009.

Renyi, 64, served as Executive Chairman of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation from July 2007 until he retired in August 2008. Prior to that he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and The Bank of New York, from February 1998 to July 2007. His career at The Bank of New York Mellon and its predecessor company spanned almost four decades and included key leadership roles in securities servicing, credit policy, capital markets, and domestic and international banking. Renyi is a member of the Board of Directors of RiskMetrics Group, Inc. and Public Service Enterprise Group.
