The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation Joins #GivingTuesday Movement

SAN CARLOS, Calif., Nov. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (ALCF) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity.  Every dollar donated to the Lung Cancer Foundation on #GivingTuesday will ensure that patients get state of the art immunotherapy or chemotherapy that is personalized to their genetics and type of cancer.  One out of 15 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer, but it doesn't have to be a death sentence thanks to lung cancer advocates at the ALCF.

Taking place this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to give to the causes that are close to their heart.

Why give to the ALCF on #GivingTuesday?  Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer worldwide and because diagnosis for the majority of patients comes so late that they die within one year.  Donating to the ALCF will allow patients to receive early detection screenings, receive genetic testing, pay for drug treatment research and ultimately find a cure.  Integral is dispelling the stigma of lung cancer as a smoker's disease, misinformation that has led to lung cancer lagging behind other forms of cancer in terms of research dollars.

"Because we are patient founded, focused and funded, we know how to answer their questions and support their immediate and long-term needs. To this end, we fund clinical research and provide patient programs, give patients hope and ensure that their voices are heard in advocating for changes to transform Lung Cancer into a manageable, chronic disease and ultimately, a curable disease," said Bonnie J. Addario, a Stage 3 lung cancer survivor and the founder of ALCF.

The Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute (ALCMI), created in 2008, connects scientists, researchers and physicians worldwide, leading and empowering patients to campaign toward better treatment options through improved coordination among leading cancer centers.
