Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
ANNAPOLIS, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2005--TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ:TSYS), an expert in highly reliable and secure communications for government customers and mission-critical wireless data technology, today announced the launch of its SwiftLink(R) Global Satellite Service (SGSS). The SGSS offering provides broadband satellite services to support the reach-back requirements of customers with fixed or mobile VSAT systems and offers service options with flexible pricing plans for short and medium term operations.
SGSS is a Ku-band commercial service utilizing the iDirect Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)-based Internet Protocol (IP) platform. This service is designed to provide readily available high-speed access for traveling VIPs, disaster response teams, deployed military units, or any information specialist requiring a flexible and easy-to-use communications capability. SGSS can be used to connect directly to the Internet or to private networks.
"The iDirect technology behind TeleCommunication Systems' comprehensive satellite solutions is designed to work with the IP-based applications and systems utilized in today's global operating environment," said John Kealey, President and Chief Executive Officer, iDirect. "iDirect's technology, combined with TCS' proven secure, deployable communications products and managed network solutions makes SwiftLink Global Satellite Services (SGSS) an ideal solution for organizations that require broadband connectivity. The launch of SGSS by TCS provides an unmatched, total end-to-end solution that leads the way for flexible roaming satellite networks."
"We have now extended the full suite of services for our SwiftLink customers, and it includes complete customer support, cleared personnel, access to teleports and network operations centers, and bandwidth-on-demand," said Michael Bristol, Vice President of the Network Solutions Group for TCS. "Our continued investment in research and development and our long-standing, 18-year commitment to the special operations community are reasons why TCS can be viewed as a one-stop shop for VSAT solutions."
Unlike traditional satellite services which require long-term leases and extensive start-up procedures, SGSS delivers tailored service plans with same-day activation. This value-added service was designed to complement the SwiftLink product family and accommodate the dynamic requirements of today's serious IT consumer.
TCS' products and services are backed by the TCS world-class Customer Support Services (CSS) program, offering support and maintenance options designed to meet the customers' demands.
