Tata Sky Selects NDS Systems to Create India's Most Advanced Digital and Interactive DTH Service

NDS Group plc (Nasdaq:NNDS)(EURONEXT:NNDS), the leading providerof technology solutions for digital pay TV, today announced that NDSend-to-end solutions have been chosen by Tata Sky for the launch ofthe company's direct-to-home (DTH) pay-TV service in India inmid-2006. Tata Sky is the 80:20 joint venture between TATA Group andSTAR Group.
Tata Sky is investing in building a high quality digitalinfrastructure in the country to offer a superior television viewingexperience to Indian households. The service will enhance the choicefor viewers looking for the best of pay television services in thecountry. Tata Sky aims to become India's largest digital televisionplatform, offering consumers a wide array of programming choices withinteractive features and superior picture and sound quality.
Mr Vikram Kaushik, CEO, Tata Sky Ltd said, "We are committed tobuilding a state-of-the-art DTH operation in India for which we haveselected NDS to provide end-to-end solutions. This will enable us totransfer control and choice into the hands of subscribers".

NDS is working with Tata Sky to build a world-class broadcastinfrastructure. NDS systems will play a key role in the end-to-endsystem architecture and launching the nationwide digital service. TheNDS VideoGuard(R) conditional access solution provides superiorbroadcast security, and enables Tata Sky to offer multiple programmingand pricing packages. NDS's MediaHighway middleware and Value@TVinteractive infrastructure will enable Tata Sky to offer interactiveservices to subscribers. NDS engineers in Bangalore will be key in thedesign, delivery and service support of the end-to-end solution.
The digital technology of Tata Sky DTH service will eliminate manyrecurrent problems that consumers face while watching television inIndia. The DTH satellite signal is always on and will eliminateinstances of service downtime caused by power cuts and cable cutting.The Tata Sky service will have fixed channel positions and pre-tunedaudio levels.
