Starz Making Huge Appeal To Kids, Spanish Speakers
(RTTNews) - Starz, the premium cable network owned by Lionsgate Entertainment, plans to increase its app, on-demand and OTT content offerings by 40 percent to 7,700 titles by 2017-end and to focus especially on kids and Spanish-language content.
Starz Monday said content on its subscription-based app has increased by 125% to 5,500 titles since the network launched the stand-alone platform. Starz kids programming has grown tenfold since the app was launched with nearly 1,250 television series episodes and movies, while its Spanish-language content is expected to reach more than 700 movies and TV shows by the end of the year.
The company also said it plans to add 40% more films and TV series by the end of 2017.
"Much of the content increase from 2,400 has been accomplished with the acquisition of strategically complementary programming that reinforces the STARZ value proposition," the company said in a statement.
"Starz continues to invest in programming for STARZ subscribers to continue to reinforce the best value proposition in the marketplace today," said Jeffrey Hirsch, Chief Operating Officer at Starz. "With both streaming and download viewing options, the STARZ app offers flexibility and is a tremendous value for all ages and audiences that enjoy premium, commercial-free viewing."
