Staples Inc. Q3 Income Declines 4%

(RTTNews) - Staples Inc. (SPLS) reported a profit for third quarter that fell compared to the same period last year.

The company said its profit dropped to $226 million, or $0.35 per share. This was lower than $236 million, or $0.37 per share, in last year's third quarter.

Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.35 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said revenue for the quarter fell 6.2% to $5.59 billion. This was down from $5.96 billion last year.
