StanCorp Financial Profit Rises Despite Lower Revenue - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - StanCorp Financial Group Inc (SFG) Wednesday reported third-quarter net earnings of $71 million or $1.65 per share compared with $59 million or $1.32 per share last year.

Excluding capital losses, earnings for the quarter were $1.73 per share, compared with $1.45 per share a year ago.

Revenues for the quarter were $682 million compared with $702 million in the prior year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $1.33 per share on revenues of $693.5 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

The company said the rise in profit was primarily due to more favorable claims experience in Employee Benefits and Individual Disability, partly offset by lower net investment income.
